“Hi guys, I have to say I am completely overwhelmed by the things I have seen since we arrived here. The problem is that no matter what words I use, they will never be enough. For years, I have been watching, posting, or editing photos of Crosscause work in Africa and I thought I knew this place and that nothing would surprise me (it was naive of me). But yesterday, every few minutes, I was more and more amazed. The project is top-notch, well-planned, and organized. The children are so incredibly HAPPY and sweet, the staff ladies are kind and gentle, and even the builders (guys in their twenties after a hard day’s work in the heat, they were messing around on a trampoline with disabled children).
But then there is also poverty, slowly killing Atsu Wonder a 13-year-old disable boy because there is not enough food for everyone in his family. I saw a young disabled man named Kawsi, who was running and crawling on his knees with unbelievable happiness on his face, roaring with excitement when he saw Conor coming to visit him. Guys, words are useless in trying to describe everything I have seen.
Every minute we dedicate to helping Crosscause is incredibly meaningful. I know it may sound cheesy, but seeing the smiles on these children’s faces is all thanks to the small efforts we put in Blackrock. I can see the difference we’re making and it’s truly heartwarming.”
This message was originally sent to our volunteer group by one of our team members who joined Conor on the trip to Ghana in April. We decided to share it so that everyone can gain a deeper understanding of Crosscause. Stay tuned for the next part tomorrow!
