Good morning everyone, yesterday we were doing community outreach in the West Ho area. It involved a lot of driving, basically the whole day in the jeep. The families we visited and the stories we heard were heart-wrenching. All of the families we visited were targeted by Emmanuel – Ghanaians who are helping us. He is closely connected to the communities in the area, and then Conor personally assesses the families. I can tell you, the job isn’t easy. What I’ve learned here is that finding poor people is an easy task, as there are so many of them. But finding those who our help and donations can truly change their lives and not go to waste is very challenging.
I want to share just one story, about this lady (see video below). After giving birth to twins, one of them died during labor and she lost the ability to use her legs. Her husband left her because she became a burden. All of this happened 8 years ago. I can’t imagine what the past 8 years must have been like for her. Thankfully, she met a good man who is helping her, and now Crosscause is going to support her family too. We donated a rollators and some money to help with daily expenses. This young woman (maybe in her mid to late twenties) is a fighter. She didn’t want a wheelchair (which would be an easy solution); she said she will try until she can walk again.
This message was originally sent to our volunteer group by one of our team members who joined Conor on the trip to Ghana in April. We decided to share it so that everyone can gain a deeper understanding of Crosscause. Stay tuned for the next part tomorrow!
