Hope, Healing, and a Home at Casa Bridget
At Crosscause, we believe that community is built not just by offering help, but by sharing purpose, creating belonging, and walking together through life’s toughest challenges. Over the past year, we’ve seen this beautifully reflected in the lives of the Ukrainian families now staying with us at Casa Bridget.

One of the most moving stories is that of little Sofia, a brave five-year-old who fled the war in Ukraine. Full of curiosity and charm, she carries invisible wounds no child should have to bear. Displacement, fear, and the loss of home have left deep marks. While she is settling into daily life with us, she still needs ongoing support for her general health and emotional well-being.
Sofia is here with her older sister Elena, a kind-hearted 26-year-old who lives with an uncertified disability. Though she needs constant encouragement, she gives her energy and love freely, helping our adult residents with disabilities by taking them on walks and supporting their social engagement. Elena, too, requires ongoing health support.

At the moment, eight Ukrainian individuals live at Casa Bridget. Many of them, like young Miroslav, are still grappling with the trauma of war. Loud noises often send Miroslav into a state of panic—a heartbreaking reminder of the bombings and chaos he once knew. He lives with his devoted parents, who help out daily in our centre and are a vital part of the support we provide.
These families didn’t just lose their homes—they lost stability, routine, and the safety every child deserves. The trauma of war doesn’t end when the guns fall silent. It shows up in sleepless nights, anxious faces, and fearful reactions to everyday sounds. That’s why we focus not only on providing shelter, but on creating a space where healing can begin.
We’re proud of how these families have become active, caring members of our extended Crosscause family. Together with our long-term residents—20 adults with severe disabilities who live at Casa Bridget, most of whom were abandoned in the old neuropsychiatric orphanage of Nicorești—we are building something remarkable: a community rooted in care, purpose, and dignity.
And there’s a moment of celebration ahead: on June 8th, we will be marking Sofia’s baptism, a symbol of hope, new beginnings, and belonging. It will be a day filled with meaning for all of us here.
