Crosscause Charity’s Ukrainian Night: Celebrating Community and Solidarity
Since 2022, Crosscause Charity has proudly hosted Ukrainian Night, an event that has become a symbol of unity and support for Ukrainian refugees in our community. Held in Blackrock, this gathering brings together locals and Ukrainian families who have made Ireland their new home, creating an evening filled with music, fun, and a shared sense of purpose.
How It All Began
Ukrainian Night started in 2022, shortly after Russia’s attack on Ukraine. As many Ukrainians fled their country, seeking safety in places like Ireland, Crosscause Charity wanted to show our solidarity. The first event was a simple gathering with music and entertainment, but it quickly became much more—a way to welcome our Ukrainian friends and let them know they are not alone.
Growing Support and Expanding Our Mission
By 2023, as the situation in Ukraine worsened, the need for support grew more urgent. In response, we expanded Ukrainian Night into a fundraiser aimed at sending aid directly to those in Ukraine. The generosity of our community made this possible, allowing us to raise funds for essential supplies that made a real difference on the ground.
We’ve been fortunate to have steadfast support from local businesses like Rocksalt, The Bayview Tavern, and Home Bakery. These partners have always been there for us, offering their services and spaces to help bring the community together and ensure the success of the event. We couldn’t have done it without them.
Music That Unites Us
Over the years, Ukrainian Night has been graced by some incredible musicians. Artists like Miki G, Jens Kommnick, Patrick Martin, Brendan McCahey, the Glas Quartet, and of course, The Willin’ Fools, have made the event truly special. Their performances have brought the night to life, creating an unforgettable atmosphere filled with vibrant energy and joy. The music not only entertained us but also reminded us of the power it has to bring people together, uniting our community in support and solidarity.
Why This Year Matters More Than Ever
As we prepare for the third Ukrainian Night in 2024, we know our support is more important than ever. While there are still many voices of support, we are also hearing more negativity toward refugees in our country. This makes our mission even more crucial. By coming together for Ukrainian Night, we are showing that our community stands with those in need, no matter what.
