On April 20th, a young girl named Elizabeth arrived at the Xorladi Centre, our safe home for children in Ghana. She is around 15 years old and comes from a rural village in Nigeria. Like many children in vulnerable situations, Elizabeth doesn’t know her exact age—just that she’s still very young.

Her journey to us was heartbreaking.

About six months ago, two men came to her village. In parts of West Africa, it’s sadly still common for girls to be promised a better future by strangers—and families, often out of desperation, agree to give away their daughters as ‘wives,’ believing it will lead to something better. That’s what happened to Elizabeth and her sister.

She was taken to Ghana by one of the men, much older than her—42 years old. Instead of a better future, she was met with fear and cruelty. He trafficked her into Ghana, where she was locked in a house, isolated, and harmed in ways no child should ever experience. Her voice, her freedom, and her safety were taken from her.

But even in darkness, there are those who care.

In early April, neighbours who had seen what was happening found the courage to speak out. Authorities were alerted, and the man responsible was arrested. Elizabeth was removed from immediate danger—but in Ghana, rescue is just the first step. Resources are limited, and children like Elizabeth often have nowhere safe to go next.

That’s where the Xorladi Centre comes in.

Thanks to the tireless work of Conor, Ettore and Diana, and their strong local partnerships—especially with caring professionals like Wisdom from Ghana’s Department of Social Welfare—Elizabeth found her way to us.

And now, at last, she is safe.

At Xorladi, Elizabeth is receiving care, rest, and support. She’s beginning to smile. She’s getting the chance to just be a child again—free from fear, and surrounded by kindness.

Stories like Elizabeth’s are difficult, but they show us exactly why Xorladi exists. Every child deserves safety, dignity, and love. Because of your support—through donations, volunteering, or simply sharing our mission—this home remains open and ready for the next child in need.

From all of us at Crosscause, thank you. You are part of Elizabeth’s story now, too.

With your help, we can reach more girls like Elizabeth and change more lives. Please donate!
